I'm havin' another dumb, crazy yet ingenious idea.
Okay, so I'm brainstorming how I could build Carol Danvers aka Captain Marvel from the ground up. It's gonna be my sole mission to start over with these characters in light of what Marvel is doing latley.
So far I have a few ideas and tropes I would like to try out for her:
1.) She is a Blood Knight
, Okay, I know being a blood knight could be a bad thing, but I'm gonna tell you what I am picturing. Okay, imagine there being a battle in oh I don't know, Houston or maybe San Fransisco, A giant Gamma Monster twice the size of the Hulk is going around tearing up a city block, during the fight, Carol took a moment to look at the monster, typically a hero would be like "I will stop you" or something cheezy or cliche that modern "strong female characters" would say. No the only thing going in her mind are two words.... "Challange Accepted." If she's too deep in the fight, it would take around 4-5 Avengers to stop her.
2.) She's not in the air force or SHIELD because of gender related goals. She's in it because of one man "Captain America." I don't know why she joined in the comics, but I wanted to give her a better goal besides the cliche "Because I want to be the first woman that-" Or "I want to prove my peers wrong by-" Oh come on, you do realize how many times I heard that, I'll get on that subject later at some point. Anyway, back to Carol, what I am imagining that, growing up, she would have been collecting Captain America merchandise, comics, she watched a cheezy tv show about it. She would have been motivated by two things reading those. 1.) She would be serve her country you know "Ask not what your country would do for you, but what you could do for your country." That whole thing. And 2.) even the tinest of men and women can be heroes. She honestly did not care about the gender issues at all, in fact. She just assumed that this is a time where those issues did not matter anymore. She just reached for her dreams because she herself wanted too. Also imagine her meeting Cap for the first time, before she got her powers. She would be the ascended fangirl that the guys and gals at Rooster Teeth are. (And if i play my cards right, and have it written perfectly it could develop into something else entierly. But that's another story...)
3.) She honestly HATES the "strong female character" concept. Okay I know I said she doesn't care about the gender issues everyone is talking about, but the one thing she does hate is the idea of "Strong female characters." Because it actually makes things worse. I imagine her leaving the theater with the Spider-Family and she just goes on ranting on how the female protagonist is dull, predictable, steroetypical, unsympathetic and politically pushing the movie producers are about it and she would rant even more on how she's also a mary-sue too. Yeah it would be that bad. Remember that comic where the Question tries to be like Rorscharch and fails? Yeah imagine that but with Carol doing the same thing, then lying in the snow, Skrull villian ready to off her, asking if she has any last words and you know what those would be? "Yeah, Lightning can go suck my cosmic power c-." Right before a red and gold armored billionaire shows up to save her butt.
4.) She doesn't become Ms. Marvel at any point. Okay. So bare with me here, let me ask you this, why should she be Ms. Anything? Why should she play second fiddle when she can be her own something? I am proposing that instead of giving her the Ms. Marvel identity, she would be Warbird, and she would be wearing a variation of the shield uniform given to Steve in the Winter Soldier movie with some additional armor, mainly because she doesn't know how powerful she is at that point. It is after she saved a city and she becomes a trending... uh... thing on every social media platform does she decide that she should go full superhero. Wearing another variation of the SHIELD Spec. Ops uniform but with it being more colorful. But there's also another thing to this.
5.) She's actually reluctant to be anyone's role model. She's actually self aware of her flaws, even the blood knight one, and it would be at a point to where she would be extremelly nervous when a fan tells her "I want to be like you when I grow up!"Another reason she's not a fan of the idea is because she knows how dangerous that life could be, so when there's a teenage girl named "Ms. Marvel" going around breaking into the Superhero business, Carol herself tries to discourage her from entering that life, even going so far as to saying "Your name is Kamala Khan, you're a freshmen in Coles Academic High School and as Slothbaby, you wrote up to fifty one-shot fanfictions about everyone in the super hero community, with eleven of them being the trashiest, smuttiest pieces I have ever read in my entire life." Subconciously she would have ended up teaching Kamala about what to do as a hero.
So tell me what other tropes Carol should have? I want to hear it from you guys.
And please don't use this as a way to rant and vent on what Marvel is doing, I get it, we all get it, don't go around shoving it in our faces. I believe in "He who fights monsters could be one himself."
